For the past week the possible trade between the Jets and Packers for Brett Favre seemed as dead as a door nail, when Favre or someone close to him said he had no interest in going to New York. Well, today Favre and agent James "Bus" Cook were tooting a different song. What else is new?
In an article from Yahoo by AP writer Chris Jenkins, Cook cofirmed that both the Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the likely destinations for Favre. Favre is now home in Mississippi waiting for the trade to be completed. Even Favre confirmed that he was considering both the Bucs and the Jets.
Still, whoever the Packers trade him too, Favre has to accept it, since Green Bay owns his rights.
The Buccaneers are the favorite, since Favre is familiar with Head Coach Jon Gruden, who was a recievers coach for the Packers when Favre was in the eariler part of his career in Green Bay. Also, Tampa uses a version of the west coast offense that the Packers use, since Gruden, like many other Green Bay alumminis, use the playbook of Mike Holmgren, the former Green Bay coach and current Seattle Seahawk coach.
The Jets no longer use the west coast offense, having disposed of it after it was a total failure when Chad Pennington failed to play well in it. Plus, bringing the west coast offense to New York was the idea of Herman Edwards, who no longer coaches the team. Instead the Jets use a version of Bill Parcells offenseive scheme to let the run set up the passing game on third down.
The trade could be made any day now, maybe by tomorrow evening.
