Mets Get Kicked In The Astros

ASTROS 4
METS 0

The Mets got their butt kicked in for the thrid straight day against the Houston Astros in Texas today. This was the first time that Houston swept the Mets since 1993, a long, long, long time ago.

Today's episode of Met Misery included former Met Ty Wigginton scorching his former team for a 2 for 4 day with a homer and two runs scored. Wigginton got the party started with a solo shot to left to give Houston a 1-0 lead.

The Mets had their chances, but could not capitalize, as they loaded the bases twice in the fourth and fifth innings against Randy Wolf, and could do nothing. The Mets went 0-10 with runners in scoring position in this disaster.

Finally in the Houston fourth the Mets fell apart. Hunter Pence doubled to left to bring home Wigginton. Later, Darin Erstad singled to left to bring home Pence to make it 3-0. Finally, Humberto Quintero doubled to left to make it 4-0.

That was all Houston needed. The Mets are officially hittting a skid. It's not unexpected since they were so hot in the month of July going a total of 18-8. They have lost five of six, and are still in third place.
