LIVE BLOG: Rex Ryan Costs Jets Season

PATRIOTS 17
JETS 0

As they say in New York: Fudgetaboutit!

You can say all the cliche's you need to, such as SAME OLE' JETS!

Rex Ryan overmanaged in the first quarter of Monday night's Jets vs. Patriots contest. With New York trailing 3-0, he decided to challenge a questionable quarterback sneak by Mark Sanchez on third and one, only to lose the challenge and cost his team a timeout.

The Jets bailed him out when Sonn Greene converted the down on fourth and short, but the Jets had no reason to use that challenge at all.

Then after the Jets drive stalled at the Patriots 40 yard line, Ryan elected to kick a 53 yard field goal with the most unreliable kicker in the NFL in Nick Folk. The Jets should have punted the ball and pinned the Pats back at their own 10 yard line, but no, Ryan thought it was an ingenious idea to try to tie the game.

Of course Folk missed the field goal, and the Patriots, got great field position. After a 36 yard pass interference play on Eric Smith, the Pats scored to make it 10-0. Ball game over! AFC East division title belongs to New England. AFC's number one seed belongs to New England.

The Jets will likely make the playoffs, (barring another historic collapse) but will have to travel to either Kansas City or San Diego (two very hot teams right now) in the wild card round.

43 years and counting Jet fans...
