Mets Come to Life

A day after the Mets had to sweat out another ballgame, they finally got a much needed laugher as they walked right past the Washington Nationals 12-0, Wednesday night.

The Mets got all they needed in the third inning as 13 men came to bat against starter Jason Bergmann. The Mets scored a season high eight runs in the inning to take a 10-0 lead.

Dan Murphy, who had a huge night, singled to left to drive home David Wright to get things going in the third. Later Fernando Tatis, who had homered in the second inning, singled to left to drive home Delgado giving the Mets a 4-0 lead. After John Maine walked to drive home another run, Jose Reyes drove home two more with a single to left center to make it 7-0 Metropolitans.

Finally, Carlos Beltran doubled to left center, to bring home two more runs to make it 10-0. It was a total debacle for Bergmann, who had to gut it out and stay through the punishment to save the National bullpen.

In the fifth, Murphy added to his big night, slapping a two run homerun into the bullpen in left field to give New York a 12-0 lead. Murphy has two homers and eight RBI since being called from Double-A Bigimton.

John Maine was ok in his first start off the DL, going five shutout innings for the win; he gave up only one hit all night. Brian Stokes, who was called up from Tripple-A New Orleans last week pitched four shutout innings in relief to earn a save.
