Devils Struggle in Carolina

HURRICANES 3
DEVILS 2
With an opportunity to close in on the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers, the Devils came up short in Carolina on Tuesday night.
Carolina scored three unanswered goals, before the Devils could even blink. Back up goalie Scott Clemensen struggled to hold off the Hurricanes fast play, allowing three goals on 28 shots.
The Canes scored a goal in each period. Ray Whitney opened the scoring 1:03 into the game. Later, Sergei Samsonov scored his eighth goal on a power play to make it 2-0.
By the time New Jersey scored in the third period, there was less than eight minutes left in the game; it was too little too late. The Devils remain two points behind the Rangers and Flyers.
